Driver of Kandal Accident Confesses After Arrested

KANDAL: An arrest has been made in connection with the horrific motor accident in Kampong Svay on Sunday, where six people were killed. What was initially thought to be just an accident, when a Toyota Tundra driving at excessive speeds drove into group of motorcycles, now appears to be intentional, and the driver has now explained his actions.

It was at 12:30 in the morning on Sunday when a Toyota Truck driving recklessly and at excessive speed collided with numerous motorcycles, leaving six dead. The dead have been identified as Ros Bunly, Vath Phanith, Prum Mesa, Phon Sopheara and Bo Bros Vin. One has yet to be named.

In a video released by the police, the driver of the Toyota truck, Ly Chomnan, outlined what happened. A man is seen sitting in a chair explaining his actions that night. In the clip he explains he was assaulted by the ten men who arrived on motorcycles outside of the Prey Doung Pagoda. He reports that he ended up being injured in the assault but managed to escape.

The driver then retreated to receive medical aid at a local hospital, but while leaving he was confronted by the gang for a second time. As a response, he retaliated by driving his truck at speed into the gang, killing six of them. What at first appeared to be a simple case of negligent driving has now become one that could see Ly Chomnan facing multiple murder charges.
